VDI Overview

Ericom Connect includes functionality to deploy virtual machine hosts from Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

VDI functionality can help organizations save costs related to operating expenses.  For example, organizations running servers on premise can save on power consumption expenses by shutting down virtual machines that are not in use.  Automatically deleting instances that are no longer needed can also free storage for other uses.

Hosts that are managed by a platform are classified as "Managed" and there is an associated System group.

Hosts that are managed only by the RemoteAgent are classified as "Unmanaged" and there is an associated System group.

Useful features include:

  • Power management of virtual machines (VM)
  • Instantiating new hosts from templates
  • Shutting down hosts that are no longer used
  • Static and Dynamic user assignment to machines
  • Join machines automatically to appropriate groups

The connection broker grants each user access to his or her own desktop session.
